How far are we from a true alternative fuel

Would like to hear input from everyone on this topic. Do you think gas is here to stay or are we close to the end big oils stangle hold on the market.
I don't think the oil
I don't think the oil companies will allow that to happen for a long time. Besides when it does happen big oil will buy the rights and control the market anyways.
